Can Catlar del Llorer

Can Catlar del Llorer 1

Description

The building is characterised by a combination of traditional and Gothic architectural elements, with some architectural features dating back to later periods, the result of several renovations carried out over the centuries. The house has a small, intimate entrance with a cobbled floor and two doorways with rounded arches. The inner courtyard is one of the oldest courtyards still preserved in Palma. It is built in the Gothic style and is dominated by an octagonal pillar supporting two rounded arches, the staircase and the stone paving.

History

This house dates back to medieval ages and is probably of Islamic origin. During the 15th century, the building was owned by the Armadans family and subsequently belonged to Canon Joanot Soldevila in the 16th century. During the 17th century, the house was purchased by relatives of the Dezcallar family, who gave the house its name. In the 19th century, the house was bought by Mrs. Maria-Agnès Ribera i Garau, descendant of a rich merchant.
