Can Montaner (Can Morell de les Caputxines)

In the year 1567 the house was owned by the Vida family. Following the marriage between Francesc de Montaner and Isabel Vida in the beginning of the 17th century, the house passed to the Montaner family. Francesc Amar de Montaner y Dameto (1690-1761), a major supporter of Philip V of Spain, was appointed Marquis of the Reguer in the year 1739. He carried out renovation work to the house owned by the Montaner family, heirs of the Vida family. Francesc Amar de Montaner y Dameto married Beatriz Sanglada y de Puigdorfila, who died in 1768. She contributed important assets to the Montaner family's fortune such as trusts from the Sanglada and the Sureda families, as well as the house in Palma, which came to be known as Cal Reguer and is currently known as Casal Balaguer. In the year 1865, Can Montaner came into the possession of Francisco de Montaner e Iraola, who sold it to the Morell family. They were the ones to give the house the name of Can Morell de les Caputxines.

The main doorway with its segmental arch and the original concave balcony in the most dynamic baroque style situated in the upper part of the building are the façade's most notable features. The balcony bears the coat of arms with the crown of the Marquises of Reguer in the centre, now no longer visible. The porch features octagonal pillars. The entrance has a beamed ceiling and a segmental arch that leads to the inner courtyard. The most outstanding elements of the courtyard are the imperial staircase to the right, accessed via another segmental arch, and the pilaster capitals featuring the Amar and Muntaner family coats of arms.
