7. Recommendations to adopt Energy Efficiency or Renewable Energy technologies in The Balearic Islands

Hotel energy solutions

  • It is advisable to carry out energy audits focused on air conditioning, with measurements in the network and equipment in order to conduct a feasibility study of air conditioning change. They would also detect potential network enhancements and improvements in equipment.
  • Adjust the input voltage to 400V. Surge increases energy consumption exponentially and the power company should be asked to regulate the voltage in the transformer. Between 1% and 3% of total consumption can be saved.
  • Make sure a temperature set between 22 and 26ºC is maintained during the summer season, when consumption is higher. Each degree of difference increases by 8% the electricity bill.
  • Insulate the pipes of the cooling system, the exchanger and Sanitary Hot Water.
  • Program the air conditioning pumps depending on the operation of coolers and boilers (summer and winter) as an energy saving measure.
  • Install separate electric and water meters in heated pools and Spas.
  • Adapt the control card holder in order to cut the supply to the air conditioning system when the access card is withdrawn. Contact sensors (magnetic latching) should also be placed in windows associated to the card holder to prevent air conditioning from working when the windows are open or the card withdrawn.
  • Consider sun protection passive measures in balconies in order to reduce energy consumption during summer.
